【Description】

This is a rare traditional Kokeshi doll crafted by Setsuko Takanashi (Togatta lineage).
She was the daughter of the renowned artisan Takeo Sato, inheriting the family’s tradition while developing her own soft and feminine style characterized by delicate brushwork and vivid colors.

This piece is believed to date from the mid-1970s (around 1973), when Takanashi began signing her works under the name “Setsuko.”
The head features bold red radiating floral motifs, while the body is decorated with striking red and green plant patterns — a hallmark of the Togatta style. The doll’s gentle smile reflects the warmth and grace unique to Setsuko’s work.
