These are unworn men's geta sandals, custom-made in the 1960s by Mutsumiya, a prestigious footwear maker based in Kobe, Japan.
Founded in the Taisho era, Mutsumiya was once located inside the Daimaru department store in Kobe and earned a strong reputation for its exquisite craftsmanship and premium materials. Their work was highly regarded by discerning customers throughout the decades.
This particular pair features smooth-grained natural wood and classic black velvet-like hanao (straps), crafted in the traditional two-tooth style.
The soles are marked with a brass plate bearing the Mutsumiya name and a metal tag engraved with 「別製」 (custom-made), indicating it was a special order.
While the actual wooden base measures approx. 9.3 inches (23.6 cm) in length, geta are traditionally worn with the heel slightly hanging off the back.
This pair also has a wider platform (12 cm width) and a generously spaced thong, allowing it to comfortably fit men's US size 7 to 9.5 (25–27 cm).
Comes with the original box (some age spotting visible).
An exceptional vintage piece, ideal not only for wearing with summer kimono or yukata, but also as a valuable collector’s item.
