This is a traditional Tsuchiyu-style Kokeshi doll, handcrafted by artisan Toshiaki Sato.
During the 1960s, Japan experienced the so-called “Kokeshi Boom”, when collectors across the country flocked to hot spring towns in the Tohoku region to purchase these charming folk art dolls. This piece perfectly reflects that era, featuring a warm and gentle smile along with vivid horizontal stripe patterns.
The head is adorned with red ribbon-like designs, giving it a nostalgic and heartwarming expression. The artisan’s signature is clearly inscribed on the bottom, enhancing its value as a collectible work.
